SUMMARY:Online Book Club
DESCRIPTION:Join us online to discuss the book All Our Families by Jennifer Natalya Fink \nWeaving together stories of members of her own family with sociohistorical research\, Fink illustrates how the eradication of disabled people from family narratives is rooted in racist\, misogynistic\, and antisemitic sorting systems inherited from Nazis. By examining the rhetoric of genetic testing\, she shows that a fear of disability begins before a child is even born and that fear of disability is\, fundamentally\, a fear of care. Fink analyzes our racist and sexist care systems\, exposing their inequities as a source of stigmatizing ableism. All Our Families challenges us to re-lineate disability within the family as a means of repair toward a more inclusive and flexible structure of care and community. \nREGISTER NOW\n \n \n \n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n Your Name:\n \n \n Your Email:\n \n \n Your Phone:\n \n \n Organization\, if applicable:\n \n \n If you need an accommodation\, please specify:

SUMMARY:The Basics of Supported Decision Making
DESCRIPTION:This webinar is part of the Paving the Way to Self Determination program. \nFor family/guardians \nEvery adult has the right to make life decisions\, to direct their life and to be treated with dignity\, as an autonomous adult. All adults need and get advice and counsel when making different life decisions. Many options\, other than guardianship\, are available to provide counsel\, guidance\, and assistance with making decisions. Person Centered Planning and Self-Determination require that adults with disabilities are respected and honored to make life decisions with the support and counsel\, they need and to remain as independent and autonomous as possible. Multiple avenues are available to support individuals to make decisions and direct their own life. This presentation will discuss tools\, that can be used to support people in decision-making while retaining their rights. \nPresented by Mary Shehan – The Michigan DD Council \n  \nTo register and learn more about the Paving the Way to Self Determination program\, including all of the trainings offered\, visit Paving the Way to Self Determination. The registration form for all events is available at the bottom of the page. \n
