RAMP-A-THON: Michael

Michael and group of volunteer builders on new rampMichael uses both a manual wheelchair and a power chair but was unable to access his home independently because of four steps at the entry. Michael lives with extended family and his grandsons had to carry him in and out of the house so that he could attend medical appointments and other activities. Michael’s daughter advocated to get him a ramp by calling a variety of community agencies but had no success until she connected with Disability Network Southwest Michigan. Through our Ramp Up program we were able to assist Michael. with getting a ramp for his home.

Michael now says he feels safer being able to get out of his house in case of an emergency and more independent because he can come and go on his own and not be dependent on family members to carry him out of the house.
