RAMP-A-THON: Rose

Rose on her ramp and traveling down sidewalk in her chairRose can walk short distances in her home and do steps with some assistance but uses a power scooter when outside her home. Whenever Rose needed to attend an appointment or otherwise access the community, her caregiver had to carry this heavy piece of equipment up and down 4 steps so that Rose could use the Handivan service.

Rose connected with Disability Network Southwest Michigan and through our Ramp Up program we were able to coordinate resources to build a ramp on Rose’s home. Suddenly Rose’s world opened up – after getting her ramp she immediately scootered out and took off down the street excitedly telling us that now she could go around the block on her own or up to the corner bar-b-que restaurant or down to the creek to go fishing!
