Lynn experienced the effects of COVID-19 firsthand. At first, she thought she had bronchitis and scheduled a visit with her doctor. A few days later she developed other symptoms that led her to the ER and she was then admitted to the ICU. In total, she was hospitalized for 57 days.
Lynn went from being healthy and working, to having major health complications after testing positive for COVID-19. She now has limited mobility, using both a wheelchair and a walker, and cannot use the stairs to get in and out of her home. Lynn has pulmonary therapy three times a week and without a ramp her only means of access was to be carried, up and down the steps, by her family.
Working with a partner agency, she was referred to Disability Network. Through our Ramp Up program, we were able to coordinate funding, materials and volunteers to build a ramp on her home giving her full access to get in and out of her house. Lynn is grateful to be able to get in and out of her house independently; she now can get her walker and oxygen tanks to the car so she can go shopping or visit family and friends.
