Disability Network Southwest Michigan is hosting a free workshop for human service professionals titled Disability Language and Assumptions. The language we use is powerful and can reveal hidden assumptions we might not realize we have.
At this free workshop Disability Network invites human service professionals to explore new ideas, ask questions in a safe environment and challenge some assumptions about what it means to live with a disability. “Ableism shows up in our social work practice and organizations whether we intend it to or not,” says Michele McGowen, Program Manager for Systems Advocacy and Community Education. “We invite area professionals to come and learn new ways of thinking and talking about disability.”
The workshop will be held in both our St. Joseph and Kalamazoo offices:
