At Disability Network Southwest Michigan we value our volunteers and all of the important work they do for us. Each year, one outstanding volunteer is chosen as our Volunteer of the Year. This year, Jeff Monroe, one of our most dedicated ramp volunteers was chosen as the 2019 Volunteer of the Year.

Jeff is the Coordinator for the Ramp Up ministry at First United Methodist Church of Kalamazoo and has made countless contributions to our program over the past year. Jeff is a licensed contractor and has participated in building ten ramps through our Ramp Up program so far this year, with more to come. He has also acted as a professional advisor on two additional ramps. In addition, Jeff has helped three new volunteer groups get off the ground building ramps for our Ramp Up program which has allowed us to provide ramps to many more people.

Jeff’s efforts have been far above and beyond our expectations. Everyone who works with Jeff, comes away with greater knowledge, a few new trade tricks, and usually a tool shopping list.

First United Methodist Church has a long history with our Ramp Up program. In 2004, a staff member sent a letter to the editor in the local newspaper explaining our need for an experienced contractor and volunteer groups to provide volunteer labor to help support our Ramp Up program. Tom Schaberg from First United Methodist Church of Kalamazoo stepped forward to accept that role and provided leadership of volunteers in our Ramp Up program for many years. We are so pleased that Jeff was willing and able to continue this important and valued relationship with First United Methodist Church.

Thank you, Jeff, for making a difference. We look forward to continuing working with you to provide “Access For All!”
